The Extra Support Service have an exciting opportunity available and are looking for a Senior Extra Support Scheme Worker to join the established team on a permanent full time basis. This role is designed to support high standards of direct care/support delivery by providing direct practical supervision and support to front line staff and supporting decisions on prioritising daily tasks. They will act on the direction of Deputy Scheme Managers/ Scheme Manager on providing focussed mentoring to improve service performance in key areas, ensure inductions are completed and signed off in a timely and supportive manner, supervisions and supervisor/supervisee contact is maintained and lead by example in the delivery of high quality person centred care/support to learning disabled adults who present behaviours that challenge.

Senior Extra Support Scheme Workers will support the identification of learning needs across the staff group and participate in skills development and mentoring. Assess, coordinate and take action for the immediate provision of personal and practical assistance to individuals. Supervise others in maintaining and improving the well-being and security of individuals and the community. Take the lead role on shift, as required, and in the absence of the Manager / Deputy Scheme Manager. Work on both the management rota providing operational management On Calls and on the staffing rota delivering care/support directly to individuals.  Support work is a 24-hour job, and often involves working to a shift pattern that will include evenings, weekend’s, on-call provision and sleep-ins of which additional payments to the basic wage is paid.

For this reason, having patience and a strong ability to listen and communicate well are much-needed, valuable skills.

It is essential applicants can demonstrate:

  • Previous experience of working in a care and support setting
  • Good teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to undertake shifts which entail ‘lone working’
  • Experience complying with Health and Safety regulations
  • A good knowledge of adults with a learning disability who demonstrate challenging behaviour
